Botswana Beyond Diamonds

default

The topic I am going to explain is diamonds in Botswana. Botswana is in southern Africa. For this assignment I will be interviewing Jeffrey I. Herbst (Provost of Miami University) on how he is helping the government of Botswana become less dependent on diamonds.

Q: Why is Botswana so dependent on diamonds?

A: I believe that Botswana is so dependent on diamonds because it found dimonds soon after independence and never found any other economic activites.

Q: Why is it important that Botswana develope other products?

A: I think that in about 25 years the diamonds are going to run out.

Q: What specific advice have you given them?

A: My friend, Greg Mills, and I have told them how other countries have developoed other industries.

Q: What do you think will happen in the future in Botswana?

A: Gradually they will develope other industries including mining other minerals, and replace diamonds in 25 years.

Q: Do you think this will help Botswana become richer in the future?

A: Yes, I do believe this will help them because if you have different products you're in better shape. For instince, if Botswana becomes less dependent on dimonds they won't have to worry about the dimonds going down.

Alana,
This is really awesome! I like how you have included links throughout your entry to other websites. You really have a good idea of how a blog works.
Congratulations, you are going to Columbus!
