South America’s Vanishing Rain Forest

The Yanomami people, along with the Amazon Rain Forest have been affected greatly.  The land was taken by settlers and miners in the past.  Their people also died from diseases such as malaria, influenza, and the whooping cough from the miners that came there in the 1960s or later. In 1991, the people of Brazil began to help by giving 36,000 square miles to the Yanomami people but it didn’t stop people from tearing down the land. Many loggers and other people have destroyed almost 20 percent of rain forest.  Farmers have also taken land by soy farming, which is taking a huge amount.
Brazilians, along with the World Wildlife Fund and the Amazon Region Protected Area, are helping to keep the Amazon rain forest amazing and beautiful.  The ARPA is protecting about 12 percent of the Amazon rain forest.  These organizations hope that the rain forest will remain in one piece and that they can find a way to protect the rest of the land from the people who want to use it.

Dear Ellen Raskin:

I am writing to tell you how good and challenging your book The Westing Game is to me.  This book involves a lot of critical thinking and looking in between the lines.  You have to put the clues together and answer all riddles.  It has plenty of surprises and is full of “so called” tragedies.
I was wondering why you didn’t make it a series.  It could’ve been longer and add more to the story.  I think that The Westing Game would be better if it was a series.
Hopefully you will write back to me.  I’d look forward to seeing a response.  Thank you for reading this letter.

    Sincerely,

     Daniel

How to get from Room 201 to the Art Room by the Cafeteria

You need to walk from room 201 to the second art room on the fifth grade wing to see your sculpture on display, after it is fired up.  The distance is about 23 yards and it will take about a minute.

* First, take a left from Mr. Tubbs’s room and go down the steps.

* Next, walk about 7 yards down the hallway.

* At the end of the hallway you’ll probably see Mrs. Hilb’s room.

* Turn left again and move 13 yards forward.

* You will see a drinking fountain and that tells you that you’re halfway.

* Last of all, go down 3 yards and you’ll arrive at the art room.

* Now, you can see how your sculpture looks!

Thank you letter

3/8/06

Dear Moshe,

Thank you for coming to the wedding.  I really enjoyed seeing you and everyone-else at one time.  Before the wedding even started, you reassured me that I’d have a good time.  Up till’ that moment, I thought I’d become bored during it.  Never in my life have I been to a Jewish wedding and how complicated the process is.  I’m just happy that you made the day entertaining.  Many people were excited to see you including me.  It seems like you have been in Israel forever!  I was really pleased with this weekend and I was delighted that you made everything a whole lot better.

Your cousin,

Daniel

Self-Reflection part two

Today, I experienced an onomatopoeia curse.  Then right in the morning while I was running, I heard a chirping from a strange bird. During school, the bell ringing every ten minutes annoyed me. Throughout recess, people were yelling and screaming everywhere.  Later after school, I went to the sports store and flabbergasted my friend.  Finally, when I got to my house, I was so sick of onomatopoeia, I yelled, screamed, and ran around the house.  I went to my bed to feel better.  I then fell asleep, and didn't think of onomatopoeia for eight hours.  Soon then I awakened and listened for a noise of some kind but I heard nothing. For the rest of the entire day there was no onomatopoeia and the curse has finally lifted!
