The Yanomami people may lose the forest in the future. When roads were built many loggers came in and cut down large areas of trees.  The recent incline in soy farming made things worse. Many loggers were cutting down the forest, and miners mining for their gold. Diseases such as malaria, influenza, and whooping cough caused the villagers lives. In 1991 Brazil set aside 36,000 square miles of land for the Yanomami people.
