Guiding Question

How can we harness the power of the sun and use it as an alternative form of energy?

Introduction

Solar energy is energy that comes from the sun.  The sun produces nearly all the heat on the planet, and is responsible for all life on our planet. Without it, the earth would be freezing cold--minus hundreds of degrees Fahrenheit, almost as cold as space. The sun also makes the wind blow and the ocean currents flow. Its heat makes clouds, rain, snow, and all the weather on our planet, too.

1. A parabolic trough works by mirrors reflecting sunlight at water, heating it up, then turns to steam used to turn a turbine.
2. A central tower power plant works by mirrors pointing at the sun to reflect energy
3. a problem is that it only works when the sun is shining.

1. A parabolic trough is a big curved mirror that focusses the sunlight to strike a pipe, and then the pipe gets so hot that it can boil water into steam, or ake electricity.
2. A central Tower Power Plant is where heliostats, big mirrors, which there are 1800 of, circle around the inside of a tower. The light is reflected to the top of the tower, where a fluid is turned very hot. That fluid, when hot, is used to make energy.
3. It is not always good to use sun as a source of enery, because in some places it is not always sunny, but is some other times, and in other places, there is never sun. In some places, it would work though, because there is sun, all of the time.

2.1,800 mirrors reflect the suns rays to a tower in the middle of all the mirrors. It boils a liquid into steam and uses it for energy.
3.One problem with using solar energy is sometimes the sun,s not out.

1. A parabolic trough is a curved mirror and it focuses light to hit the pipe and then it will get really hot so it boils water into steam, and then it can be used a s electricity.
2. The Central Tower Plant reflects light off of 1,800 mirrors. Then the light reflects back to the top of a tower in the center of the circle where the liquid turns very hot. Then it can be used as electricity.
3.When people use the sun as a source of energy its not always a good thing because it costs money to make them and the sun isn't always out and it could take a long time to make electricity that way.

1. It's a highly curved mirror, it foces the sunlight at a pipe. It will cause steam wich will turn turbines, that make electricity.
2. Their are 1,800 mirrors, the mirrors will trun to face the sun atamtically. Sunlight will move to the top of the tower reflecting off of the mirrors. it will heat a liquid wich can then be used to make electricity.
3. A problem with solar power is it will not work at night or doring cloudy or fogy days were the sun is hidden.

1.A parabolic trough is a highley curved mirror that focusses the sunlight on a long pipe. The pipe is is going down to the central point that is over the curved mirror. Then all of the liquids in the pipe get hot and turn into steam.That is a parabolic trough and ho it works.
2.A central tower plant is another form of solar plants to make electrcity from the sun. It is called Solar Project Two. In this project, the sun is reflected off of mirrors that are around the tower in a circular form. The mirrors turn when needed to face the sun. The light reflects back to the tower and the fluid is turned hot by the rays of the sun.
3. Solar energy can be unhelpful or inconvinent because if the sun isn't out that day, there is no energy. It is also expensive to purchase and esemble the mirrors and the towers or plants. If it is raining or even a light bit cloudy, the electricity is therefore affected.

2. A Central Power Tower Plant works by sunlight is reflected off of 1,800 mirrors circleing the small tower. The heliostats (mirrors) all move and turn to face the sun all day long.
3. A problom that the solar energy has is that if it is not sunny or if it is raining, you have no electricaty/power. But if it is sunny you do have electricity/power.

2.Another way of solar power plants, to make electricity is called a Central Tower Power Plant. First, sunlight is reflected off 1,800 mirrors around the tower. The mirrors, heliostats move and turn to all the time. Next, the light is reflected back to the top of the towerin the Center of the circle where the liquid is made very hot by the sun's rays. Finally, that liquid can be used to boil water to make the steam turn a turbine and a generater.
3. The reason solar power is not always a good idea is beacuase you can only use it if there is sun out. If it it rainy, cloudy, or just not sunny you cannot use solar energy.

- A parabolic trough is a way to get electricity by solar energy. Long, currved mirrors are lined up facing the sun. A heat transfer fluid runs through the sets of mirrors, capturing the sun's energy. The energy is then brought together for different ways to use electricity.
- A Central Tower Power Plant is anothe rway to get electricity from solor energy. Many mirrors are circled around a tall tower. The energy form the sun hits the mirrors and then is reflected off the mirrors to the tower. Inside the tower there is a fluid that gets scalding hot by the sun's rays. The fluid is then used for electrical uses.
- The problem with using the sun's energy is that it only works when the sun is out. Humans also use a lot of solar energy, if we always use large amounts of the solar energy the other living organisms may suffer on our behalf.

One problem is that if it was a rainy day the sun wouldn’t come out and there would be no energy.
