The Amazon rain forest is being destructed, but concerned people are trying to save it.  In the 1960s, the Brazilian government told the poor to live in the rainforest.  This brought in roads, loggers, and sawmills.  More people began to be concerned about the loss of the rain forest.  In 1991, Brazil saved 36,000 square miles of the land for the Yahnomami.  In the year 2004, almost 10,000 square miles were cut down.  Some experts estimate that in the last few years, more than twenty percent of the Amazon was cut down.  Since soy farming has become more popular, more people are building roads are clearing the Amazon to find soy.  Brazil has started working with the WWF and the ARAP to work on saving the rain forest.  They are preserving at least twelve percent of the rain forest.
