Dear Ms. Lowry:
As a student reading many of your books, I wanted to thank you for your wonderful work. Your books often contain questions that are intriguing and thought-inspiring.
I have read a few of your books, including A Summer to Die, Number the Stars, and The Giver. Being a sister to a girl with medical problems, I really related to many aspects A Summer to Die. Number the Stars was also an excellent book, full of suspense and a real-life element from the fact that it took place in a factual time period. But, I would have to say that my favorite is The Giver. I thought so much about this book, and what it would be like to live in that community and the concept of living with the Sameness. Had you considered a sequel? I would be very interested in what happened to Jonas- or Fiona, Asher, Lily, and the Giver-after the ending of the book.
Thank you so much for writing these books. They were enjoyable and nearly challenging. I look forward to any future publishhings of yours! Thank you for taking the time to read my letter.
Sincerely,
Alexandra

Thank You Letter
3/8/06
Dear Leila,
Thank you so much for inviting me to NYC this summer. As you know, I have wanted to visit this marvelous city nearly my entire life. Of all the many things you have done for me, this is the most generous, and one of the most heartfelt. Amazingly, you have selected many of my dream destinations! Broadway, of course, the Plaza, and Saks Fifth Avenue, only to name a few- I could hardly be more elated! Not to say in the least that that it is merely the city that creates the appeal of this trip. There is no one I would prefer to you as my New York companion. I?m am also thrilled that I will be meeting your friends Fran and Lucy, considering that I have heard so many incredible things about them. Only 104 days left!
With much love and anticipation,
Alexandra

Self-Reflection #2
You
stand in the dim shack, silently screaming to escape
this creepy place. All around you, crusty counters overflow with
scraps of eerily grinding metal. Cluttering the floor, piles of
broken, grayish wood creak under your feet. Paint
fumes sneak over towards you from the paint-flecked cabinets and
hollowly clanging lockers. Buzzing in from a small crack in a high
window comes a fly, bringing with
it a slight, warm breeze. The mild draft feels soft against your skin,
a stark contrast to the cold aura of metal that lurks here. The
abandoned workshed smell of cracked wood and rust leaks up from a
filthy cement floor. Heart pounding, you back towards the door, sawdust screeching under your feet the whole way.
